Kaji Abhiman Singh Basnyat

Kaji Abhiman Singh Basnyat was chief of the army of the first unified Nepal. He moved to Kathmandu with the Saha Dynasty, who considered it the capital of the new Nepal. He was the third son of General Shivaram Singh Basnyat, who died during the war with Bhaktapur in Sanga bhangyang. Abhiman was only two and a half years old then and was raised by his mother Suprabha Singh Basnyat. King Prithvi Narayan Shah had made available all the required resources to raise his family close to the royal palace. Kaji Abhiman Singh Basnyat and Sworoop Sing Karki led a massive attack on Saptari Bhuvveneshwor and the Kavilas area, conquering them. Under the command of Kaji Abhiman Singh Basnyat, the upper Dang Valley and Chitwan were annexed to the territory of Gorkha in 1777. As a result, Abhiman Singh Basnyat was granted the designation "Kaji". He also led the force that conquered the separate eastern Terai estates and unified Nepal. After the death of King Prithivi Narayan Shah, during the rule of King Pratap Singh Shah, the eastern region led by ex-minister Buddhi Karna Rai was seeking to weaken the Gorkha governance of the region by means of robbery and brutality. Kaji Abhiman Singh Basnyat overcame this by deploying a guerilla force to capture the culprits, earning him widespread esteem in the region. After he captured and killed 15 members of the group, including their leaders Ripu Mardan Sen and Sikkime Sen, the situation normalized in the region and a durable peace was restored. Kaji Abhiman Singh Basnyat then handed over responsibility for the eastern region to Swaroop Singh Karki and moved to Kathmandu.
